McCarthy Causing Tension

Joseph McCarthy was a senator from Wisconsin. He accused people for being a communistic. The term McCarthyism is the political action of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence. The term mostly describes the actions that took place in the United States called the Second Red Scare. The Second Red Scare heightened fears of communist influence. "McCarthyism" soon took on another meaning, describing the excesses of similar efforts. The term is also now used to describe reckless, unsupported accusations. Thousands of Americans were accused of being Communists or communist sympathizers and became the subject of investigations and questioning. The high targets of the suspicions were government employees. A question is brought up by many people, why didn't the Republicans stop him? They thought he was helping them by ridding the county of communist activities. They also thought if they stood up against him, they would be accused as well.

The Civil War in China was between the communists, lead by Mao Zedong, and the Nationalists, lead by Chiang Kai-Sheck. The Chinese nationalists showed resisting the Japanese, but Kai-Shecks government was dictatorial, inefficient, and corrupt and they undermined the nationalists support. The communists were winning because most people liked the communists actions. Peasants like the communists because they gave land to them and reduced their rent. Korean War: A Cause of Tension

The Korean War was because of the conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel. Suddenly, North Korea invaded South Korea, and war broke out. The U.S. was involved in much of the fighting throughout the whole war trying to stop the Communistic actions. Air and naval support was ordered to fight back against the North by Truman to aid the South. At first, the North Korean troops seemed to be unstoppable, but after a month of brutal combat, the North pushed the South into the corner of the peninsula. There were counter attacks from the South by tanks and heavy artillary, after a long fight, over half of the North Korean troops surrendered and the rest fled back across their side of the 38th parallel. The Chinese decides to fight back, but the United States chooses to stay out of this battle. This was a large tension for the United States and our allies.

USA: The Right Choice

I am siding with the United States of America. Not just because I am a patriotic citizen or because I live there. I support the USA because of its outlook on stopping totalitarianism governments, reuniting Germany and gaining raw materials for high processing industries. With totalitarianism, citizens owe the state absolute obedience unless the government violates individual rights. Citizens should have the right to their own property. Totalitarianism takes over public and personal life. If Germany is reunited, peace will be restored and all nations will become allies. By gaining raw materials, the booming industries will produce more, causing economic glory.

The United States and the Soviet Union had been Allies against the Axis powers, but they disagreed about the ways of the post-war world. The United States encouraged democracy in other countries to help prevent totalitarian government, rebuild European government, gain raw materials for booming industries, and reunite Germany. Totalitarianism is a political system in which a citizen is totally subject to absolute state authority in all aspects of everyday life. For example, Adolf Hitler in Germany. The Soviet Union encouraged communism in other countries, wanted to transfer industrial equipment to the Soviet Union to rebuild economy, and keep Germany divided and weak. Communism is a political theory favoring collectivism in a classless society.
